Born in Istanbul. Studied violin at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Completed graduate studies in musicology, with a thesis on the relationship between contemporary Turkish music and Second New poetry in İlhan Usmanbaş's works.

Received her PhD from ITU in 2015 with a thesis on the musical practices of Iraqi-Chaldean migrants in Istanbul. Later researched Syrian musicians living in Istanbul, and in 2021 conducted ethnographic research on the Arab Music Scene in New York with a TÜBİTAK postdoctoral fellowship.

Currently on faculty at the MSGSÜ Istanbul State Conservatory, chairing the Department of Ethnomusicology.

Recipient of the ITMC 2022 Best Article Award. Edited volumes include Ethnomusicology: Cultures and Musics (İthaki, 2022), Cogito: Thinking Aloud (YKY, 2023), and Ruhi Su and Music Cultures in Turkey (Aras, 2024). Since 2025, she has served as review editor of Music and Minorities Journal.

A violinist in the CRR Symphony Orchestra from 1999–2004, she has coordinated the CRR Concert Hall Art Advisory Board since 2024.
